Hollywood undead we are. UPPER DARBY — Delco is getting ready for its close-up. Again. Used as the setting in a number of Hollywood major motion pictures in recent years, Delaware County can now add “Hollywould” to its growing repertoire of films shot here. Directed and produced by Joshua Coates, and distributed by Indican Pictures, "Hollywould" is expected to be in theaters by June. Executive producers also include Mitchell Bass, Marcia Bass and Steven Bass. Scenes were shot locally in Bryn Mawr and Clifton Heights, Newtown Township and the Primos section of Upper Darby, from June 3-9. The sci-fi/mystery thriller stars Eric Roberts, Torrei Hart and Pete Postiglione. Although the film is not projected to be in theaters until June, "Hollywould" will premiere on the big screen at the Ridgewood Guild’s International Film Festival in Ridgewood, N. J., at 6 p. m. Thursday, April 25. Coates is inviting Delco residents and others from the Philadelphia area to celebrate the film’s release by attending the red carpet event, screening and after-party. “Delaware County and Philly have been great to me, ” Coates said. “I want the local residents to get tickets, glam up and attend the black-tie event. It’s going to be a lot of fun. Eric Roberts and other stars of 'Hollywould' will be there, as well as other celebrities who will come out in support of the film. It will be a night to remember and I hope local residents will join us in the celebration! ” Created by Mitchell Bass of JAM Entertainment, with the screenplay written by Coates, "Hollywould" centers on the character Mark Travis, an award-winning writer who returns to his hometown of Angel Heights to seek inspiration. According to promotional material about the 90-minute film, “what Travis finds when he arrives is not what he expected. Her name is Holly and what Holly would do, is like nothing Travis has ever experienced before. Holly brings a storm of chaos and confusion to Travis’s mind, pushes him to the edge, making him do things that he never thought he would do. He finds himself on a ride that he cannot escape, a train ride destined to crash. " Holly, who may be a real person or a metaphoric figment of his imagination, is played by Caitlyn Fletcher. Additional cast members on set include Val McAdoo, Alice Rose, Forrest Carroll and a host of others. Although the film is currently unrated, Coates said it would likely be PG-13, as most of its content is family friendly. Delaware County’s locations used in the film include Lula’s Deli Corner in the 100 block of West Berkley Ave., Clifton Heights; J. T. Brewski’s Pub, 510 S. Oak Ave., Primos; an undisclosed Clifton Heights home; the Newtown Township Police Department; Cocco’s Pizza, 540 Oak Ave., Primos; Cocco’s Gelateria, 550 S. Oak Ave., Primos; and SEPTA's Primos train station on Oak Avenue, a stop on the Media/Elwyn Regional Rail Line. Although the film crew tried to be discreet last summer and avoid attracting crowds, Coates said word leaked quickly and soon bystanders were gathered outside of the locations, hoping to catch a glimpse of the film’s stars. Many thought the filming was for scenes in “Creed 2, ” which also had film crews in the Delaware County and Philadelphia areas at that same time. “I wanted to do a film here to give back to a community that has been incredibly good to me and my family, ” Coates explained. “Delaware County is a hidden jewel. ” According to Coates, he and his wife, Kristine, and their two sons, ages 10 and 6, enjoy the county's community spirit, as well as their children's school district, athletic clubs and teams and the down-to-earth, hard-working people. Coates, born, raised and living in the area, is planning to relocate to either Tennessee or California in the near future and says he wanted to use this area as the location of the film “to leave his mark here. ” “I just wanted to somehow involve the community in the film and highlight all the good things here and promote the area. ” Coates attended the Philadelphia High School of Creative and performing Arts in 1996, learning the art of film making and theater production. Over the years he worked to perfect a unique style of storytelling, combining a mixture of faith and sci-fi. In 2008 Joshua formed a production company, 20/20 Visions Entertainment Group, that specializes in story development, scripting, distribution, casting and film financing. The director has recently partnered with WOF Films movie veteran Mark Lipsky, who is the former head of Eddie Murphy Productions. He produced a number of Eddie Murphy classic hits such as "Harlem Nights" "Coming to America, " "Another 48hrs, " "Boomerang, " "The Nutty Professor" and more. Coates was writer, director and producer of three other full-length professional films, “D-Railed” in 2018, an acclaimed faith-based film; “But Deliver Us From Evil” in 2017; and “Iniquity” in 2012. The filmmaker said he has nine movies currently “in the pipeline, ” with four of those to be filmed in the Philadelphia area. Local actors in the film will also walk the red carpet, including Michael Cocco and his father, Andrew Cocco, owners of Cocco’s Pizza and Cocco’s Gelateria, who both had notable speaking roles in the film. The Cocco’s Pizza parlor was used in "Hollywould. ", as well as their Gelateria, which was the setting for a retirement party scene in the film. The Cocco family is no newcomer to lights, camera, action. Their business also was recently used as the backdrop in a three-day commercial shoot for the Pennsylvania Lottery. “I play myself in 'Hollywould', ” Michael shared. “I had to study lines and act natural, but I was really nervous because I had to run my lines with Eric Roberts and I was always a huge fan of his, even before this movie came about. He’s just so cool! ” Theresa Cocco, Michael’s wife, added, “Mike practiced those lines for weeks! He really wanted to get them right! Everyone in the crew was just so nice. We really had a good time while they were here! ” “Mike was a natural, the crew was remarkable and we got to enjoy Cocco’s Pizza every day for lunch, ” Coates said with a smile. “We had 40 scenes to shoot with zero budget for overtime so it was really important that we stay on schedule and meet our goals each day so we could call it a wrap on time in the nine-day shoot. ” Most members of the Cocco family plan on making the trek to Ridgewood for the film premiere. They are not only excited about being in the film, and their businesses being featured, but they are also delighted that Coates will leave the “Cocco’s” name visible to viewers. Lula’s owners Vera and Emad Elsabagh and JT Brewski Pub’s owner Tom Smith should also be pleased to know “Lula’s Deli Corner” and “J. Brewski’s” will also be visibly noticeable in the film. Smith, too, has a part in the film. He does not play himself as Cocco does, but rather he plays the part of a customer of his tavern. “There’s so much talent in this area, ” Coates explained. “I tried to capitalize on that and use a lot of local actors and extras. The Mitchells are in the area, Torrei Hart is from Philly and Pete Postiglione is from Springfield –I wanted this to showcase the Philadelphia area and its people. I used union actors and union contractors. The people around here are really amazing – they're unique and have a style of their own. ” “Hollywould” will join a long line of notable motion pictures shot in Delaware County, including "Silver Linings Playbook, " "Creed 2, " "The Lovely Bones, " "The Village, " "After Earth, " "Clean and Sober, " "Paranoia" and others. “We worked hard to film ‘Hollwould, ’ but we also had a lot of fun. I am really grateful to the business owners and residents of Delaware County for the warm reception we received here, ” Coates said sincerely. “I am a spiritual person and I really feel like being in this area and meeting certain people here was meant to be. Shooting the film here made total sense. I really want everyone in the area to be at the film’s red carpet event April 25. The premiere of this film is not only ‘my’ celebration — it is ‘our’celebration. To acquire tickets to the Hollywould premiere and red carpet event at the Ridgewood International Film Festival on April 25, visit. All proceeds from ticket sales benefits The Ridgewood Guild to help fulfill their mission for a better Ridgewood.

Reviewed in the United States on April 29, 2020 Verified Purchase I would feel better about the film if I paid less for it. Like under $2. 50. It felt low budget. There was some quality to the production but the length of the scenes was felt. I enjoyed the cast, enjoyed the look (Glam & Wardrobe & Production design), the camera work most of the time, the Lighting was very nice, the audio was kind of shaky but mostly okay. It was the decisions in post for me. The story and material is good, but it was like asking the annoying person in the room to tell it. Long conversations should happen in multiple locations within a location. Keeping the useless lines of the featured extras when we only need their reactions and expressions made it feel like a school project. Im sure eveybody loved to be included. I feel like they forced the length of the story. Reviewed in the United States on February 27, 2020 Verified Purchase Great film with a good story line. Has a good twist to it and Catie Fletcher is great as Holly! Reviewed in the United States on April 10, 2020 Verified Purchase Great movie. Totally worth the watch.
